Heartbreaking News: Woman Shoots Mother Dead And Steals Her Baby

All over the news today is a horrific story about Texas mother Kala Marie Golden, 28, who was shot to death outside a pediatrician’s office. Her 3-day-old son Keegan Schuchardt was kidnapped by the shooter, who it turns out planned to adopt the little boy. Honestly, it’s the stuff of nightmares, and I’m finding it really hard to wrap my head around such a gruesome and utterly heart-wrenching scene.

If there’s one silver lining it’s that little Keegan was found six hours later, unharmed, and is being reunited with his father. Meanwhile, police have arrested Verna McClain, a 30-year-old registered nurse in Houston who now faces kidnapping charges and capital murder charges in Golden’s death, according to reports.

McClain’s sister, Corina Jackson, told police her sister had said she would soon be adopting a child, which helps explain the motive for the killing.

The whole thing is chilling and such a tragedy. It makes all us moms want to hug our kids a bit tighter and it makes me think of how Golden was just going about her day taking her newborn to the pediatrician for a routine checkup when the unthinkable happened. The part that really gets me is reports that Golden screamed “My baby, my baby!” as McClain drove away in her Lexus sedan. McClain reportedly shot Golden several times in the chest before speeding off with another unnamed person, striking her in the process.

Investigators are still trying to determine a motive for the shooting and kidnapping, according to reports. Whatever the outcome, a newborn baby is now without a mother a fact that will touch moms everywhere and make us all the more grateful for what we have.
