This Anti-Vaxx Mom Who Snatched Her Kid Proves That Parental Kidnapping Should Never Be Ignored

This virulently anti-vaxx, racist, gun nut Florida mom (where else?) who kidnapped her 2-year-old daughter last month to prevent her from being exposed to vaccines or Black history is the perfect example of why custodial kidnappings should never be ignored. Plenty of people like to pretend these situations are private, personal issues, but custody agreements are there for a reason. The mom, Megan Elizabeth Everett was last seen on May 6, when her daughter’s father, Robert Baumann dropped the child, Lilly, off to her. Lily was supposed to be returned the following week, but Everett never turned up, and eventually Baumann found a chilling note explaining her actions. According to The Sun Sentinel:

“You are a great dad,” she wrote, with the word “great” underlined. “If I let them take her and vaccinate her and brainwash her, I wouldn’t be doing what’s right. I cannot let a judge tell me how my daughter should be raised. We will miss you. But I had to leave.”

Everett, who was living with her equally nutty and racist boyfriend Carlos Lesters, has a warrant out for her arrest and will be charged with kidnapping, interference with custody and concealing a minor contrary to a court order.

Even Everett’s own mother feels like she’s a danger to the child, and you know you’re doing something wrong when your own mother turns on you. According to The Daily Mail:

“In the state of mind my daughter is in, Lilly would be better off with Robert,’ Pam Everett, Megan Everett’s mother, told the Sun-Sentinel. ‘I have four kids, and Megan is my baby. I don’t know what happened to her.”

I can already hear a chorus of “parental kidnapping isn’t real kidnapping,” but I think that notion is naive at best, and blatantly ignorant at worst. There are exceptions, but for the most part I think custody orders are there for a number of important reasons, one of them being the prevention of a mentally unstable parent pushing their bullshit, racist and dangerous ideas on their children.

If this woman wants to be an anti-vaxx, gun toting, racist d-bag, then okay, but running away with your kid to keep them from their other parent (when the parent has done nothing to warrant it) is beyond fucked up.
