Best Gifts For Your Friends Who Are Still Obsessed With ‘Friends’

Friends. It’s that quintessential ’90s show that made every young person want to move to New York, meet awesome strangers, and experience the city with the most supportive, funny strangers turned besties around. Better yet, there was someone in the group almost anyone could relate to. If you weren’t’ the fashion savvy Rachel, you could easily be the freethinking Phoebe (because wasn’t she just the Luna Lovegood of her time?).  If you were neither, then maybe you were more the perfectionist Monica type. No matter what, there was a place for you. At least, that’s how watching the show felt. It’s also why the reruns remain so popular to this day.

But Friends was almost called something entirely different. We could be talking about Insomnia Cafe, which was the proposed title, instead. Before becoming Friends as we know it today, it went through the names Six of One and Across the Hall. Weird, right? And, instead of a Lisa Kudrow Phoebe, we could have had one played by the famous redhead, Kathy Griffin. Can we agree that things fell into place the way they were meant to be? It was serendipity. It had to be since director James Burrows decided the cast needed a Vegas getaway before the show premiered. Why? ”This is your last shot at anonymity. Once the show comes on the air, you guys will never be able to go anywhere without being hounded,” he foresaw.

The one with the wine

Image: Etsy/CoconutGarden

Who doesn’t need custom Friends inspired wine labels? Yes, you could use them to celebrate. You could just have them around the house as well, since they make great decoration. Admit it, you’ve always wanted a ‘the one where’ dedicated to you. Okay, we guess you could give them as gifts or outfit some party pieces with them. That would involve giving them away though, which seems unnecessarily selfless. Visit Etsy, slap your or a buddy’s name on there, and you have an instant themed wine bottle. It’s a fun and easy touch of personalized embellishment. You could have a birthday label like the picture suggests, a ”˜the one where she graduates,’ or even ”˜the one where they get married.’

In this Friends house

Image: Etsy/NorthernLiberties

Friends is full of amazing quotes that feel like inside jokes when you use them with other Friends stans (the ”Pivot!” one is my favorite). Have you ever used the phrases ”˜the divorce force’ or ”˜crap bag?’ Then, this sign is for you! Put it up in your house, at your office, or wherever you’re looking for fellow fans to chat with. Frankly, you could put it anywhere. It goes with everything. Or, you could buy a bunch of wine, put those Friends labels on it from above, and after a certain amount of liquor it would definitely go with anything.

Moo or Moot, that is the question

Image: Etsy/VivaLilo

You can’t argue with Joey’s logic there. A cow’s opinion really doesn’t matter when it comes to human romantic relationships. Rachel should have but didn’t take Monica’s advice. She did end up in a relationship with her assistant, Tag Jones, he who boasted of the resume with qualifications like, “two whole summers at T.G.I. Friday’s.” The relationship (if you can call it that…did we use the term cut buddies then?) didn’t last long. Rachel ended up breaking things off with Tag when she turned thirty since she felt like he wasn’t ready for more than anything than a casual relationship. Tag does try to make things work again later, only to find out Rachel was pregnant.

A couch, a staircase, and an iconic moment

Image: Etsy/Izzashop

What made this TV moment? Was it the situation- with Rachel, Chandler, and Ross trying to move a couch up the stairs and growing more and more irritated with each other? Was it Ross’ tone, that David Schwimmer nasal pitch that’s instantly recognizable? Maybe it was the way the entire drama was relatable. Who would pay for pricey delivery services when you’re sure your friends and you are perfectly capable of lifting the couch yourself? We’ve all pitched in to friends’ moving days, enthusiastically or not. This shirt commemorates the now famous episode called ”The One With the Cop.” Weird that the couch fiasco wasn’t even the central story line, right?

Wisdom from an agent

Image: Etys/HeyJoeyItsEstelle

Estelle was a stereotypical New York, low rung talent agent. She chain smoked. She had clients that were no more than side shows (think her ”˜pyramid of dogs’ references). And she frequently encouraged Joey to take whatever job paid. This meant she offered him gay porn roles even though Joey was not interested (although he did once make an appearance in a porno as a non-participant extra). The friends even watch Joey’s X rated film in an episode. The cool thing about these Estelle pins are that no casual fan is going to have them. You have to be all-in to know who Estelle was.

Mmmm…coffee

Image: Etsy/NorthernLiberties

Know what’s better than obscure Friends references? Friends references beside Gilmore Girls ones! Here, you can have both. This print has a cup from Central Perk and from Luke’s Diner, proving that the best TV shows place coffee high up on the list of necessaries. A feature on Huff Post even documented how much coffee the six Friends drank. It says, ”London writer Kit Lovelace tracked every cup of coffee consumed on the show throughout its 236 episodes and came up with some fantastic charts. On Tuesday, the writer reshared them over Twitter after ”digging through old stuff.” One indicates that it’s Phoebe who drinks the most coffee out of anyone, with 227 cups.”

The yellow frame

Image: Etsy/YouveGotThisintheBag

If you’re giving any of this awesome stuff as gifts, you’re going to need a gift bag. This is the perfect one for any Friends fanatic. You recognize the yellow peephole frame from Monica’s apartment, right? It was there for the entirety of the show. Funny thing, it wasn’t originally meant to go there. The frame held a picture that was going to be used as decoration inside the apartment. Before taping, the glass in the frame broke. Set design decided to try it out around the peephole and tada! the trademark of Monica’s apartment door was set. If you want to make your own frame, sans the gift bag, you can find a step by step tutorial here.

Elect the friends

Image: Etsy/CarolinaThreadz

This shirt calls for the election of Joey and Chandler. Honestly, we’re here for it. They couldn’t be worse than the disaster currently taking place in the White House. We’d also love to see the chicken and duck prowl around the lawn. No, no, you don’t have to tell us. We know the chick and duck are dead. We’re not Joey and you don’t have to lie to us and say they’re very happy on that farm. However, Joey and Chandler were such good parents to the poultry, we think they could use another set. Oh, and Monica would make an awesome first lady.

Cake Perfection

Image: Etsy/EdiblePerfections

If you get the wine labels, use the peephole gift bags, and wear one of the tee shirts, you’ve got just about everything you need for the perfect Friends party. You could take it over the top and order this fondant couch for a cake topper. This Etsy store specializes in TV inspired cake creations, and the orange couch looks just like the one from the opening credits. Interestingly, the couch made the Hollywood Reporter’s list of the ten priciest pieces of Hollywood history. It was bought by an anonymous buyer in 2011. You can’t have that one, but this is a tastier and more easily shipped version.

A little bit of everything

Image: Etsy/EpicFandomsGiftShop

This charm bracelet has so many fun references from the show on it. There’s the Central Perk logo, a charm for Phoebe’s Smelly Cat, a cookbook in honor of Monica, and even Phoebe’s yellow taxi. Every Friends fan knows that the cab is a huge part of the finale of the show, since it’s what Phoebe uses to drive Ross to stop Rachel from going to Paris. Ultimately, he didn’t catch her. However, she ended up coming back to him of her own volition. This cute bracelet means nostalgia like that is never far. And look at the duck pendant!

Marry me, Joey

Image: Etsy/MeetMeInShermer

Joey presided over the weddings of both Monica to Chandler and Phoebe to Mike. You can use his”¦interesting”¦speech in a custom card for your Friends loving newlyweds. Interestingly, fans have continued to use the internet to say that Phoebe shouldn’t have ended up marrying the guy that was her ”˜lobster.’ Instead, people have some strong feelings about Phoebe ending up with Joey. Their battiness apparently perfectly complemented one another’s, and they had that ride out to Vegas and back together. So, get the card for your friends but don’t share that last bit of trivia with them. We’re happy Phoebe found happiness with Mike.

Friends Floor plans

Image: Etsy/TVfloorplans

At one point or another, each of the friends lived in Monica’s apartment. Phoebe was her roommate for a time. Rachel lived there for quite a while before bunking with Phoebe, Joey, and Ross. Chandler and Joey lived there when they won a bet and made the girls move across the hall. Off screen, Ross lived there for a year while his grandmother was still it’s main occupant, a year in which he tried to make it as a New York dancer. The floor plan for the iconic apartment has been made into an easy to frame print, and we think it’d make a great conversation piece.

Who wants to, really?

Joey was famous for his many appetites. The man ate all the time, had a taste for one night stands, and needed frequent naps to stave off crankiness. The declaration on this shirt came about when, on a date, a woman took fries off of Joey’s plate. He uttered this phrase when he explained to his friends why he didn’t want to take her out a second time. We don’t blame him. Fries are good. Someone you barely know touching your food? Not as good. The problem is that the woman is Phoebe’s friend, who she set him up with.

Good at the sarcasm

Image: Etsy/AndersAttic

In the episode ”˜The One with the Tea Leaves’ Rachel is worried about how awkward it feels to be around Joey. She asks Chandler for advice, since he knows Joey the best. Chandler, who’s admittedly awkward, tells her he’s not so good at doling out advise. Hey, at least he’s honest. He also tried the vanilla, ” I know it’s tough now, but things will get better.” It’s Rachel’s own fault she wants more than that. He was trying to be nice. That’s more than we do on our trying days when all we have is a plethora of the sarcastic comments. After all, before Monica, Janice was Chandler’s most notable relationship. Eesh.

Friends Class

Image: Etsy/KiSSClothingOnline

Can we all agree that absolutely no one looks this good in their actual year book photos? The shirt is adorable but would actually be incorrect. Monica, Rachel, and Ross did go to high school together but not in New York city. They attended Lincoln High School in Long Island, where Monica was the heavy, awkward girl, Rachel was the popular one, and Ross was the boy who pined after her. Chandler didn’t attend school with the three, since it’s revealed in the first season of the show that he went to an all boys school. As far as we know, Joey’s high school was never named.

For the baby friend

Image: Etsy/JamminThread

This gem was said by Joey, who told everyone he would go the distance for them if they were stung by a jellyfish. However, he couldn’t actually do it when the time came. Monica was stung, said she was in too much pain to walk, and Joey remembered that he saw on the Discovery Channel that human urine could help her. Yet, he couldn’t do it. Instead, he asked Chandler to do the peeing. Chandler, Monica, and Joey all seem traumatized by this. It’s perfect for a kid, though. After all, they do pee on anything and everything for a while.

Run, Run Friends

Image: Etsy/ChristisCustomVinyl

This is inspired by the episode in which Rachel and Phoebe decide to start running together. When Rachel sees the way Phoebe run, chicken-like, she doesn’t want to go anymore. She’s embarrassed. She admits this to Phoebe, who still doesn’t care. Phoeberuns like that because it’s fun, and she’s into being carefree. She dares Rachel to try, which she hesitantly does. Rachel finds out that she likes running in Phoebe’s odd way and doesn’t care that people are staring. There’s a life lesson in there somewhere, one you can memorialize on the back of your car. Run like Phoebe and decide that no one else’s opinion matters.

Pacifism is temporary

Image: Etsy/YanelleTreasures

Phoebe says this to the other five when they’re discussing war. Monica is sure she’d make an unmatched general since she has a take no prisoners personality. Chandler is sure she wouldn’t make it that high because she’d be taken out by her own troops. Joey, Ross says, would be on the front lines protecting everyone. It’s then that Phoebe says she, on one hand, has no interest in war. Yet, when the time comes she’s prepared to neutralize them all. Like we said earlier, she’s 100% Luna Lovegood before Luna was a household name. This shirt is a perfect reminder of that.
