Friends. It’s that quintessential ’90s show that made every young person want to move to New York, meet awesome strangers, and experience the city with the most supportive, funny strangers turned besties around. Better yet, there was someone in the group almost anyone could relate to. If you weren’t’ the fashion savvy Rachel, you could easily be the freethinking Phoebe (because wasn’t she just the Luna Lovegood of her time?).  If you were neither, then maybe you were more the perfectionist Monica type. No matter what, there was a place for you. At least, that’s how watching the show felt. It’s also why the reruns remain so popular to this day.
But Friends was almost called something entirely different. We could be talking about Insomnia Café, which was the proposed title, instead. Before becoming Friends as we know it today, it went through the names Six of One and Across the Hall. Weird, right? And, instead of a Lisa Kudrow Phoebe, we could have had one played by the famous redhead, Kathy Griffin. Can we agree that things fell into place the way they were meant to be? It was serendipity. It had to be since director James Burrows decided the cast needed a Vegas getaway before the show premiered. Why? “This is your last shot at anonymity. Once the show comes on the air, you guys will never be able to go anywhere without being hounded,â€Â he foresaw.
