Fox News Guest Declares Rape O’Clock By Asking ‘What Does She Expect To Happen At One A.M?’

Fotor0101864948With news of a special investigation being called to explore the details of the Daisy Coleman and Paige Pankhurst rape cases Fox News decided to have Defense attorney Joseph DiBenedetto on as a guest to ask the question  “She is leaving her home at 1 a.m. in the morning and nobody forced her to drink…what did she expect to happen at 1 a.m. after sneaking out?” I will let you ponder this for a moment while I mention a few other details in the case that DiBenedetto failed to include when asking this question. From The Kansas City Star:

In those records, Daisy alleges that after she arrived, Barnett handed her a large glass filled with alcohol. The boys urged her drink it and then a second glass too, she related later to her mother.

Yes, it doesn’t say that anyone held Daisy down and forced her to drink, but it sure sounds like me these boys were trying to get Daisy drunk. And here’s what happened after Daisy wasn’t forced to drink:

Instead, she found Daisy, sprawled on the front porch and barely conscious.

The low temperature in the area that day was listed at 22 degrees, and the teen had spent roughly three hours outside, wearing only a T-shirt and sweatpants. Her hair was frozen.

And then after her mother discovered her daughter dumped on the front porch like a cord of wood:

That’s when she saw the redness around her daughter’s genitalia and buttocks. It hurt, the girl said, when Coleman asked about it. Then she began crying.
”Immediately,” Coleman says, ”I knew what had happened.”

Coleman called 911, which directed her to St. Francis Hospital in Maryville, where, according to Daisy’s medical report, doctors observed small vaginal tears indicative of recent sexual penetration. The 13-year-old also ended up at St. Francis.

So now that we have gone over these small details, let’s see what this lovely Fox News guest has to say:

Daisy probably didn’t expect to get raped that night. Most girl doesn’t expect they will get raped. It’s not like any woman in the history of EVER has thought “I’m going to leave my house at one a.m. and go get some rape.” Because I was once a teenage girl, and I also snuck out on occasion, I think I know how young girls think. I’m not saying Daisy WAS thinking any of these things, but I’m pretty damn sure she wasn’t thinking “Tonight I will get raped.”

OK, I can play your victim-blamey reindeer games Mr. Attorney Joseph DiBenedetto. Let’s all play the:

What Did She Expect To Happen At 1 A.M. After Sneaking Out Game!!!!

1: She expected she would meet up with the boy she had been texting with, Matthew Barnett, and they would sit around and eat snacks and play Grand Theft Auto V.

2: She expected to meet up with the boy she had been texting with, Matthew Barnett, and they would have consensual, amazing, life-affirming sex. Just like in the movie Endless Love starring Brooke Shields. Matthew would ask her to “go steady” and they would both graduate high school and go to university together and get married and have a lovely family.

3: She expected her and Matthew would make out and when things got too hot and heavy she wouldn’t get raped, but one of the kids at this party would be sober enough to drive so they all would decide to go get pancakes.

4: She expected she would possibly drink more at the party and maybe throw up, but that she wouldn’t get raped.

5: She expected to see the boy she had been texting with, maybe make plans to hang out again, go home and get busted by her mom for sneaking out. But that she wouldn’t get raped.

Maybe in your world, Mr. Attorney Joseph DiBenedetto any girl or women who drinks and leaver her house after a certain hour should be expecting rape. Maybe to you it’s just what happens. It’s 1:00 a.m. it’s rape o-clock! 1:00 a.m. why that’s the raping hour! And it does happen, a lot. But it doesn’t excuse it. Why aren’t you pondering the question of what did he expect to happen at 1 a.m. after sneaking out, did he expect he would rape somebody to Matthew Barnett?

I know I shouldn’t expect a lot from Fox News, but the utter bullshittiness of this question being posed by an educated lawyer to a massive TV audience will have a lot of people asking the same victim-blamey questions when a young girl is raped. It basically translates to she is leaving her home at 1 a.m. in the morning and nobody forced her to drink…what did she expect to happen at 1 a.m. after sneaking out, it’s her fault, she got drunk, she snuck out, she was asking for it.
