Fox News Doctor Thinks Men Deserve A ‘Veto’ Over Women’s Reproductive Choices
According to Raw Story, Fox News favorite Dr. Keith Ablow (which I believe is short for A Blowhard) appeared on the network’s program Outnumbered to discuss the recent lawsuit between Sofia Vergara and her ex over their frozen embryos. Ablow seemed confused on more than just things like ‘reproductive rights’; he also wondered aloud, “why would a woman’s right to decide what to do with a frozen embryo trump a man’s right every time?” Good question, doc! It sure is weird when a woman’s right to decide what to do with an embryo trumps a man’s right every time that both the woman and man have signed a contract stating that that embryo will only be used with the consent of both partners!
But Ablow wasn’t content to stop at just criticizing Vergara and her contractually-assured embryonic cock-blocking. Instead, he declared that a pregnant person’s right to do ‘whatever’ she wants with her body (some terms and conditions apply depending on what part of the country you live in and how much money you have) is out of control. You know who really needs more of a say over a pregnant person’s body? Not her, that’s for sure!
I think men should be able to veto women’s abortions if they’re willing to care for the child after it’s born.
I’m going to have to not-so-respectfully disagree. Having gone through a very much wanted pregnancy myself, I am well aware that being pregnant kind of sucks. It sucks for a married woman working a job where she doesn’t experience any discrimination because of what’s going on and who can access regular medical care and who has a partner who’s on board with her status as an Actual Human Being and not as a Temporarily Useful Babymaker. It sucks a lot more for people who aren’t in the same very fortunate position.
So when dudes like Ablow have the ability to transfer their partner’s pregnancy into their own body to carry it the rest of the way to term, we can revisit this whole veto business. (I love that they’re pro-choice, as long as it involves a choice that a man gets to make.) Till then, their only ‘veto’ involves where and when they’re going to put their penises into someone else and whether they’re going to wrap it up when they do. Basically, they get to make decisions involving what happens to their own bodies–just like those of us with uteruses get to do, whether you like it or not.
