Communications Professor’s Tirade About ‘Filthy Rodent Muslims’ Just Communicates That She’s An A-Hole
Over the weekend, a communications instructor from Florida State University proved just how well she could communicate by launching into a deranged tirade about ‘filthy rodent Muslims’ on a stranger’s Facebook page. Message received loud and clear: you are a terrible person, lady!
FSU professor Deborah O’Connor is now an ex-professor, as she tendered her resignation shortly after her comments were passed on to FSU officials. Her unbelievably vile comments appeared on the Facebook page of the friend of a mutual friend – specifically, on his post about Eric Holder‘s decision to investigate the police shooting of 12-year-old Tamir Rice. O’Connor’s completely rational, thoughtful response?
“YOU elected POTUS, Holder et al. And they are supposed to represent all Americans, not just blacks. Why don’t these ass clowns insert themselves into their stories? […] Take your Northern fagoot [sic] elitism and shove it up your ass. You are an intellectual fraud, just like your Messiah. Obama has single-handedly turned our once great society into a Ghetto Culture, rivaling that of Europe. France is almost at war because of his filthy rodent Muslims who are attacking Native Frenchmen and women.”
This hits all the points that I would make if I was trying to create a ridiculously over-the-top parody of an extreme right-winger: racist dog-whistles, accusations of reverse racism, comical misspellings (how’s that communications degree treating you?), gross homophobia … Speaking of which, when O’Connor realized that Colin Lively, the man who made the original Facebook post, was (gasp!) gay, she immediately peaced out of the discussion, saying, “I don’t talk to you people.” Yeah, she definitely sounds like someone who belongs in front of a classroom full of young people.
Just in case a public display of rancid bigotry wasn’t enough to put her job on the line, during the online altercation, she dragged Florida State into the fray, saying, “I teach at a University, you asshole. What do you do?” What does Lively do? Remain employed, for one thing: something O’Connor can’t currently say.
O’Connor’s resignation letter to her superiors insists that her ‘punishment’ doesn’t fit her ‘crime’, and also maintains this is the first bad thing associated with her tenure as an FSU instructor. That latter clause is an interesting thing to say, because as it happens, O’Connor has a long-vacant public Twitter account. Let’s see what she’s had to say, for example, about (white) Ohio State University coach Urban Meyer and the players under his watch:
