Facebook-Using Couple Names Their Daughter ‘Like’

For real. An Israeli couple named their third child “Like.”

“To me it is important to give my children names that are not used anywhere else, at least not in Israel,” the father told the German Press Agency dpa. “If once people gave Biblical names and that was the icon, then today [the Facebook Like] is one of the most famous icons in the world.” He joked that the name could be seen as a modern version of the traditional Jewish name Ahuva, which means “beloved.”

So he has a point, although the spiritual significance of “beloved” doesn’t even come close to comparing to the fickleness of a “like.”

Lior and Vardit Adler have two other children. One was given the Hebrew name for “Honey” (“Dvash”) and the other is named “Pie.” In this way, the names all kind of work together, right? And I like both “Pie” and “Honey.” Is something wrong with me?

The Dad also says that Like has a “nice, international ring to it.”

It could have been worse. He could have named her “Poke.”

The story also brings to mind the Egyptian father who bestowed the name “Facebook” on his daughter back in February. He was very excited about the role Facebook had played in the revolution there, and thought it a fitting honor.
