Eva Mendes hasn’t starred in a movie since 2014 and we finally know why. The Stuck on You star has two daughters with actor Ryan Gosling and she says it’s the kiddos that have made her a little more thoughtful about what movies she’s taking roles in.

In an Instagram comment, she described that she won’t be in another movie until “there’s something worthwhile to be apart [sic] of.”

“As a mother now, there are many roles I won’t do,” she wrote. “There are many subject matters that I don’t want to be involved with, so it limits my choices and I’m fine with that. I have to set an example for my girls now.”

She continued, “But no worry, I got some side hustles. Ha! Thanks for asking.”

Her comments come after a fan asked when the fans are going to get to see the actress in some new movies.

When Eva first rose to fame, she was considered a sex symbol and appeared on the cover of Maxim several times between 2002 and 2010. ”It’s partially self-created, so I’m not going to act like one of those actresses who becomes shy all of a sudden,” she once told Niteside. But in 2011, she met Ryan on-set of The Place Beyond The Pines and the two ultimately settled down and had two daughters in 2014 and 2016 — leading to her change-of-heart in how she presumptively feels about the sexier roles she used to take.

This isn’t the first time that Eva’s talked about being a little pickier about her roles now that she’s a mom. But she hasn’t given up. In November 2019, she revealed that she’d really like to work with her man Ryan again. “Now that I’m older and that I’m a mother, I would obviously choose my roles differently. I’m just a walking example for [my daughters] and I take that very seriously so it would have to be something that feels appropriate and that would still be fun for me. It’s a lot of parameters, you know?” she told E!. “I really want to work with Ryan again. My most fun experience was being on set with him when he was directing.”

We just hope this happens sooner rather than later!
