Ellie Kemper Wants People to Stop Grabbing Her Pregnant Belly

There are a lot of things regular mothers and celebrity mothers have in common–the new mom paranoia that had Chrissy Teigen running semi-naked through a hotel, which was not actually on fire, clutching her two-month-old baby comes to mind as one similarity–but there are a lot of differences, too. Power and money can go a long, long way towards eliminating some of the more stressful or annoying bits of being a new mother, after all. But apparently one thing they have in common is that strangers will not stop touching their pregnant bellies, as Ellie Kemper just complained.

According to E! Online, the pregnant star of The Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt says total strangers have been invading her personal space and grabbing her stomach since she started showing. That’s an annoyance most pregnant women have probably experienced, but I always sort of figured it wouldn’t happen to famous women. I mean, who randomly goes up and grabs a celebrity’s stomach?

Lots of people, apparently.

“Now I’m showing and I don’t know what goes through a person’s mind””a stranger’s mind no less””when they think oh yes, your stomach is something that now belongs to me and I can touch it,” she said. “It’s actually crazy.”

It is so crazy! Why do people think pregnant bodies are public property? They are not! Do not go up and randomly put your hands on women without their permission, even if you are a woman too.

Touching people’s bellies is weird. Those stomach-grabbers would probably be very put out if the pregnant woman then suddenly started stroking their stomach in return.

If I ever get pregnant again, I’m going to start doing that. Just wait until someone starts touching my stomach, then I will reach out and start stroking theirs too.

“What? Is this not a thing we’re doing now?”
