Theater Spares Parents The Pain Of Watching Their Kids’ Musical By Sending A Porn DVD Instead
Parents in Edinburgh are freaking out after they received DVDs in the mail of what they expected to be footage of a children’s play, but what had mysteriously been replaced with hardcore porn. You know, I’ve seen a few videos of children’s plays in my day–as a recovering wannabe actress, I generated many such videos myself–and personally, I’d rather have the porn.
According to The Telegraph, the Edinburgh Playhouse gleefully announced the arrival of its long-awaited summer program DVDs on Facebook last Friday.
“Good news!” the theater announced. ”The MEGAMIX DVDs have arrived in time for Christmas.”
But within 48 hours the theater was frantically recalling the DVDs, because parents discovered the discs actually contained a hardcore porn film called The Bondage Mistress.
Nobody was hurt and this did not happen to me, so I am having trouble not laughing like a 12-year-old over this. The fact that it is called The Bondage Mistress makes it doubly funny. I have not laughed this hard since I saw the adorable stuffed giraffe toy that shrieks like a chorus of damned souls earlier this week.
No children have even been reported as having watched The Bondage Mistress, but at least one father says he’s pretty sure he’s going to sue about it. He doesn’t seem sure about who he’s going to sue yet, but he’s definitely considering suing somebody.
Her father described the film as ‘absolutely disgusting filth’ and said he would be taking legal action.
“Someone has broken the law somewhere here, to send that sort of thing out to a child,” said the father of a 10-year-old girl who participated in the theater program, according to the Daily Mail. “This is sexual exploitation-type stuff. I’m going to have to phone my solicitor. It’s absolutely ridiculous. … It was absolutely disgusting filth. I spoke to the Playhouse and they said all they can do is apologise. Apologise? They have just sent this out to a minor.”
The father says he hasn’t actually watched the porn “all the way through,” but described The Bondage Mistress as, “not just amateur porn this is the proper thing.”
The Edinburgh Playhouse said it discovered the error within 48 hours of shipping the DVDs and made immediate steps to recall them. About 100 were shipped. The theater also contacted police and notified customers as soon as possible, and said it apologized to everyone who might have accidentally received an unwanted copy of The Bondage Mistress by mistake.
The DVDs reportedly got swapped by accident at a video editing company that was apparently handling footage for both projects. The company, Edithouse, said it takes full responsibility for the mistake, which it said occurred while the DVDs were being duplicated. The company apologized to the parents and the theater, and it should probably also apologize to anybody out there who was expecting to receive a copy of The Bondage Mistress and got some kids’ play instead.
