The Duggars Have A Scandal And It Might Be Exciting If It Were 1915 Instead Of 2015

The Duggars have a big family secret that was posted on Instagram yesterday. For most families in the year 2015, this “scandal” would be barely worth noting but for the “side-hugs only until it’s time to bone” Duggars, this is big stuff. Are we ready? Ok, here goes:

Amy Duggar was born out of wedlock.

You guys, I think I hear something. Could it be? Why yes, it is. It’s Baby Jesus. And he’s crying. Are you happy now, Duggars? Start praying!

In all seriousness, though- this is so silly, ya’ll. There is no reason for this to be scandalous information but it’s the Duggars themselves that make it so. It highlights the fact that all along, with their blabbering about strict courtship standards and views on modesty, they have brought this scrutiny on themselves. By putting their family on such a high moral pedestal, they now have horrible people like me slavering for “scandals” to pop up because a fall from grace is pretty entertaining when it’s someone as smug and douchey as Jim Bob Duggar. If someone claims over and over to be perfect and evidence presents itself down the line that maybe they are not, it becomes noteworthy.

Amy’s statement on the matter broke my heart. It’s as though this sweet girl is apologizing for being born. God, what a warped way of life. Here is her “confession” on Instagram, which she must have felt the need to share because so many people were speculating about it:

The tabloids are telling the truth, my mom and dad did have me out of wedlock. Just because we are Christians doesn’t make us perfect, it just makes us forgiven. Just because I share the Duggar name doesn’t mean my life is perfect! God knew my uncle would have a hit show and that somehow I would be apart of it. He knew my parents story would be told. How amazing is that?! Your testimony is everything. Everyone struggles, and sins differently. but Jesus paid it all!! I’m extremely grateful to my mom for choosing to give me life. I’m sure she was scared, young, ridiculed, and felt ashamed. God’s grace covered it though! She’s beautiful inside and out. I’m also grateful that I have such an awesome relationship with my dad! Seriously he’s the greatest!
Jesus, thank you for restoring hearts, relationships and families. No matter what you have done, don’t think your a second you’re alone in this world. Jesus died so that you may be free! John3:16 #prolife

Wow, this just bums me out. Does Amy really think the manner in which she was conceived has any bearing on whether her life is “perfect?” Hey, she’s a Pants Wearer– I think she’s doing just fine for herself considering the family she came from. I really have to wonder how much Jim Bob shamed his poor sister over the years about this entire situation? Particularly, once his family became so famous for the fact that they will not do more than side-hug before it’s time to churn out soldiers of Christ?

Duggar supporters can whine all day long about leaving this family alone and not saying anything negative about them but the fact is, they bring it upon themselves. Not just by having a TV show, but by being so public with their moral standards and stringent views on dating, marriage and sex. Maybe if they weren’t so loud about it people wouldn’t be this interested in any little transgression that comes out. That said, I don’t think Amy and her mom have ANYTHING to be ashamed of. Join us in 2015, Amy Duggar. I think you would like it here.
