This Mother Got So Drunk, She Lost Her Child

I used to have nightmares when I was pregnant with my first child. They would start off as perfectly normal dreams – I would be sitting at a restaurant or hanging out with friends, when all of a sudden I would realize that my child wasn’t with me.  I guess they were spurred by some anxiety that I was going to always have another being to look after, or something. I would immediately start frantically searching for my baby.  I would wake up in a cold sweat thinking, where’s the baby? What did I do with the baby?

Well, this actually really happened to a mother. In real life. 26-year-old Heather Zimmer got so drunk and high and she misplaced her baby. She took her 1-year-old son out for a walk in his stroller Wednesday night. She was so drunk that she passed out and when she woke up on Thursday morning she had no idea what she did with her baby.

For good measure I’ll just insert comment about how it is so unfair that some people have children and act this way and others spend years and years trying to conceive. I know we’ve heard that all before, but I can’t help it.

Back to this woman and her short-term memory problem. Officers arrested her and began to search for her child. They found him with a woman that Zimmer hadn’t seen in 10 years. Apparently, she just showed up at her doorstep Wednesday night and asked her to watch her child because she would “be right back.” The woman fell asleep waiting for Zimmer to return. How weird is this story? Wouldn’t you call the police if a woman you hadn’t seen in 10 years showed up at your doorstep wasted and gave you her child?
