People Are Seriously Weirded out by This Donald Trump Moment With a Female Reporter
It’s a day of the week that ends with -day, so you know what that means: another video of Donald Trump being inappropriate around women has been released! I know, these videos are a dime a dozen at this point, but this one has the added factors of including a) a journalist b) from Ireland c) who was singled out in front of several other journalist d) while Trump was on the phone with the newly-elected Prime Minister of Ireland. Come, let’s watch the awkward moment together.
Ireland just elected a new Prime Minister, Leo Varadkar. As is the custom after most elections, the President of the United States called Varadkar to congratulate him. Members of the American and Irish press gathered in the Oval Office to record the first few moments of the call, and that’s when things got weird.
“We have a lot of your Irish press watching us,†Trump said on the phone to Taoiseach Varadkar.
“And where are you from? Go ahead, come here, come here,” he said, beckoning over Caitriona Perry, the Washington correspondent for Irish broadcaster RTE. “Where are you from? We have all of this beautiful Irish press.”
Perry walked forward into the frame and introduced herself. Trump turned his attention back to the phone and said to Varadkar,
“She has a nice smile on her face, so I bet she treats you well.”
Perry clearly didn’t think the exchange was normal, and tweeted out a video to the exchange with the caption, “Video of the bizarre moment when President @realDonaldTrump called me over during his call with Taoiseach @campaignforLeo Varadkar. @rtenews”

American Twitter users took it upon themselves to freak out and apologize to Perry on behalf of President Trump.
