All The New TV Shows & Movies Coming To Disney Plus

Disney Plus

Since we first got word of Disney’s new streaming service, Disney Plus, we’ve been waiting with bated breath for more information. Slowly but surely, Disney has been handing out just enough small bites to keep us satisfied but wanting more! Every new thing we learn about the service makes us even more excited for it to launch. Do we need a new streaming service? Probably not. Do we want a new streaming service that has all the Disney content every created? ABSOLUTELY. And let’s be honest – since Disney is pulling all their content from other platforms to host on Disney Plus, we really don’t have much of a choice!

But the more we learn about what will be available on the new streaming service, the more we want to sign up. Star Wars fan? They’ve got you covered. Craving some sweet Marvel content? Say no more. Nostalgic Disney Channel reboots? It’s happening. In addition to all our favorites, Disney Plus will also debut with a ton of original scripted and on-scripted content, and it’s sounding fantastic. Here’s everything we know (so far!) coming to Disney Plus within the first year of launch. And we’re not even including the complete Disney catalog and established FOX TV shows we know will be coming up on the platform. 2020 is going to be a busy year for TV and movie streaming, guys.

The Mandalorian

disney plus
Disney Plus

Disney Plus will be your go-to for everything Star Wars-related. The announcement of the live-action series The Mandalorian got Star Wars fans stoked. The series will take place seven years after the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi, with Pedro Pascal playing the title role and Jon Favreau directing. According to Digital Trends, the series will follow a “lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.” The pilot episode will be available on November 12 when the service launches and it’s possible Disney Plus will drop even more episodes at that time, too. Season two is already in pre-production, so you can count on hearing about The Mandalorian for a while.

Kenobi

Disney Plus

Ewan McGregor will don the robes once again to play Obi-Wan Kenobi for the original miniseries, Kenobi. The series is planned to be four-hours all together and will focus on Obi-Wan’s time living as a hermit in the Tatooine Desert. Expect to see plenty of action as Obi-Wan fights off bounty hunters and goons sent by Jabba the Hut to protect traders. Kenobi is set to begin filming in 2020, so we won’t have it when Disney Plus launches, but we won’t have to wait long.

Untitled Diego Luna Series

disney pus
LucasFilm

If you’ve been jonesing for more Diego Luna after watching Rogue One (and really, who among us hasn’t?!), then you’ll love this. He’s set to star as rebel spy Cassian Andor in a new live-action series on Disney Plus. The series will take place after the events of the movie Rogue One, and will also include Cassian’s robot sidekick (why are the robot sidekicks always the best part of these things?!). It’s still untitled, and there’s been no information released about when it will be available to stream.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars

Netflix

Star Wars: The Clone Wars is an incredibly popular show among Star Wars fans, and it looks like Disney Plus will take that and run with it. The animated series was previously available for streaming on Netflix, and the first six seasons were released back between 2008 and 2014. There haven’t been any new episodes since Lucasfilm decided to end the series five years ago, but it was recently announced that the show would be revived on Disney Plus for a seventh and final season to air February 2020.

A Hawkeye Series

Marvel Studios

Still reeling from the end of Avengers: Endgame? Us too, trust us. But if you’re jonesing for some Hawkeye content, you’ll be stoked for what Disney Plus has in store. Jeremy Renner will be reprising his role as sharpshooter Clint Barton/Hawkeye on a live-action series on the new streaming platform. The show will show the character passing on his bow and arrows to a young woman named Kate Bishop, which can only mean one thing: even more content!

A Loki Series

Marvel Studios

We know that Loki escaped from New York with the Space Stone at the end of Avengers: Endgame. We also know that the God of Mischief is the most delightful member of MCU (we said what we said). So thankfully, we’ll be given plenty of time with Loki when his series debuts on Disney Plus in spring 2021. (Yes, it’s a bit of a wait… but it will be worth it!) The series will be overseen by Rick & Morty producer Michael Waldron and will be played by none other than Tom Hiddleston himself.

WandaVision

Disney Plus

We are super intrigued about this upcoming Disney Plus show! The Scarlet Witch and Vision are two of our favorite MCU characters (we’re still not over what happened to Vision in Infinity War, TBH), and the concept for WandaVision sounds amazing. Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olsen will reprise their roles as Scarlet Witch and Vision on the dramedy series. Wandavision is set to debut in spring 2021, and will reportedly tie-in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, which will feature Olsen as Scarlet Witch, as well.

Falcon and Winter Soldier

Marvel Studios

Sebastian Stan and Anthony Mackie will be joining forces and reprising their roles as the Winter Soldier and Falcon for a new series on Disney Plus. If you recall in Endgame, Captain America passes the proverbial baton to Falcon as the Winter Soldier looked on. The new series will most likely deal with that new relationship and standing in the MCU. Falcon and The Winter Soldier will be written by Malcolm Spellman and directed by Kari Skogland.

Ms. Marvel

Disney / Marvel Studios

It’s about time we got some Kamala Kahn content! Teenage superheroine and fangirl Kamala Kahn will be making her way into the MCU with the new series Ms. Marvel, set to premiere on Disney Plus. The series is expected to be the springboard for Kahn to appear in future Marvel Cinematic Universe movies, and we are so here for it. If you’re familiar with Kamala Kahn in the comics, she uses her shape-shifting capabilities to fight crime while navigating life as a young Muslim woman. This is a total win for representation, so we hope that Disney Plus treats Ms. Marvel well.

Move over, Bruce Banner. She-Hulk is here.

Disney / Marvel Studios

Upcoming Disney Plus series She-Hulk will follow attorney Jennifer Walters, who just happens to be Bruce Banner’s cousin. She also shares some of his gamma radiation-powered abilities. So what we’re going to have is a kick-ass woman attorney who also goes a little smash-y from time to time. Sign. Us. Up. In the comics, Walters is also pretty funny, so think Hulk-meets-Deadpool for the series. We’re hoping that comparison isn’t an overstatement.

Moon Knight

Disney Plus

Moon Knight is one of the darkest characters in the MCU, so a lot of fans were surprised to see this new series included in the Disney Plus lineup. Marc Spector is a billionaire-turned-crimefighting vigilante, but he’s no Batman. Spector also battles with mental illness and multiple personalities, which can take over his body without warning at any given time. It’ll be an interesting spin-off, for sure, but we don’t yet know who will be playing the character in Moon Knight but we’re dream casting Oliver Jackson Cohen from The Haunting Of Hill House for the role because he’d be perfect-

What If…

Disney / Marvel Studios

There’s an entire series of Marvel comics called What If…?, which features settings in alternate universes and imagines what would happen if things didn’t happen the way we know they happened in our present reality! The comics are almost like a Marvel “Choose Your Own Adventure.” When Disney Plus launches, we can expect to see a series based on those comics, with MCU actors we know and love voicing their characters. It’ll be an anthology series with each episode telling a different alternate story for a character.

Muppets Now

Instagram / @carlosnaranjomarquez

We love us some Muppets, and we’re so excited to see that they’ve found a home on Disney Plus! A new unscripted show called Muppets Now is set to debut on the streaming service in 2020. It sounds like it’s going to be like a Muppet variety show, with special celebrity guests, hopefully some music and dancing, and lots of laughs. Maybe like Sesame Street? Either way, we’ll definitely be tuning in.

UPDATE: Variety reported on September 9, 2019, that “Disney Plus has abandoned plans for a scripted Muppets series that was being worked on by Josh Gad, Adam Horowitz, and Edward Kitsis.” They didn’t make the announcement super official, but apparently the plans had to be dropped after changes in management.

Lizzie McGuire reboot

Disney Plus

Be honest — you’ve been hoping for Lizzie McGuire reboot since the show ended in 2004. We have no shame in admitting that we’ve been hoping for the exact same thing. Now, our prayers are getting answered when Disney Plus launches. Even better: it’s not a remake, but a legit revival! Hilary Duff will be returning as the titular Lizzie and the show will follow her as she tries to navigate life as a 30-year-old woman in NYC. Lizzie’s animated alter-ego will also star in the show, so obviously we’ll be watching this one. Sadly, Lizzie won’t be married to Gordo in the reboot which we’ll admit completely smashed our hearts into pieces.

High School Musical: The Musical: The Series

Disney / Marvel Studios

It seems like Disney Plus is determined to bring back everything millennials watched in middle school and high school. We’ll see LMcG again and we’ll get a brand new High School Musical series! We didn’t even get a HSM series back during Zac Efron‘s heyday! But this is decidedly not a sequel. High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is about a group of high school students trying to put on a musical production of … High School Musical. Very meta. It’ll have new songs, but also some covers of the old classics. This is the start of something NEW.

Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe

Disney

Technically the brothers aren’t going to be the stars of this particular adventure. But Phineas, Ferb, and big sister Candace are teaming up once again in a new feature-length film on Disney Plus! Phineas and Ferb: Candace Against the Universe will see the titular characters trying to rescue Candace and bring her back to Earth after she’s abducted by aliens. Somehow, that’s not even the wildest or most unbelievable adventure the siblings have gotten themselves into over the years! The OG show was a classic and we’re excited to see more… even if it won’t be a series.

The World According to Jeff Goldblum

Disney Plus

You know what the world always needs more of? Jeff Goldblum. Feeling down? Jeff can help. Need to laugh? Jeff has you covered. Want to lose yourself in something wacky and delightful? Two words: The first: Jeff. The second: Goldblum. Disney Plus will feature plenty of content that doesn’t feel super “Disney.” They acquired National Geographic materials when they purchased Fox’s magazine and TV businesses, and as part of their Nat Geo programming, we’re getting an original series starring Jeff Goldblum called, obviously, The World According to Jeff Goldblum. We assume it’s just going to be Jeff doing weird stuff and talking about weird stuff, and we’re fine with that.

Encore!

Disney

Encore!, produced by Kristen Bell, will bring together former castmates of high school musicals when they’re all grown up, and have them recreate their original musicals. Now that Kristen’s The Good Place is wrapping up, she needs to stay busy — and this is the perfect way to do so! Plus, it’s a show her kids can watch!

Earthkeepers

Next up for Disney Plus original content is Earthkeepers, a “cinematic documentary series that centers on the adventurous lives of the people changing the way we see the animal kingdom,” according to whatsondisneyplusWe haven’t gotten to watch Animal Planet since we canceled our cable subscription, so we’re excited to feed the animal-lover inside of us.

Be Our Chef

Shutterstock.com

Angela Kinsey from The Office is going to be hosting this Disney-inspired cooking competition show and we can’t wait to watch! Since Netflix has shows like The Great British Bake-Off and Nailed It!, Disney Plus is making itself a competitor. With the Disney-theme, it might be even better! Contestants on the show will participate with their families and according to Eater, they’ll be asked to create dishes based on their cultural backgrounds.

Marvel’s Hero Project

Marvel’s Hero Project is VERY Disney Channel. It’s a docuseries show that brings a spotlight on kids who portray heroism in their real, everyday lives. It’ll be available for streaming when Disney Plus launches and the first episode (of 20 in the first season) is titled “Project Unicorn.”

Cinema Relics: Iconic Art of the Movies

What’s On Disney Plus

Another docuseries for Disney Plus is Cinema Relics which is a behind-the-scenes look at our favorite flicks like Pirates of the Carribean and Who Framed Roger Rabbit? by giving audiences a close-up look of the costumes and props that helped complete them. Through interviews with craftspeople, designers, and other crew and cast members who worked on these films, we’ll get to learn so much more about the Disney films that shaped up.

Rogue Trip

Shutterstock.com

According to whatsondisneyplusRogue Trip follows TV journalist Bob Woodruff and his adult son, Mack, “take fans to all the places the average tourist wouldn’t typically visit””frequently overlooked (and even misunderstood) destinations whose hidden corners surprise, amaze, and inspire.” We’re looking forward to adding a couple more places to our travel bucketlist after watching this Disney Plus docuseries! One question: how do we get to be a tourist on the show?

Diary of a Female President

Disney

You can always count on Disney to offer up inspiring movies and shows for kids and for kids-at-heart. They have quite the lineup of original content slated for Disney Plus, and one of the shows we’re most looking forward to is Diary of a Female President. Gina Rodriguez, the star of Jane the Virgin, will play Elena, a Cuban-American young woman who goes on to become the President of the United States. The half-hour show will be sitcom style, with a continuous story and plotline.

Noelle

Disney

Move over, Hallmark Channel — Disney Plus is here to get into the made-for-TV Christmas movies game. The service launches on November 12, right in time for holiday movie binge-watching. Luckily, they’ll have something for us immediately! Noelle stars Anna Kendrick, Bill Hader, and Billy Eichner. Hader plays Nick, Santa’s son and heir to the sleigh, who suffers a nervous breakdown and flees the North Pole. Kendrick plays his sister Noelle, who has to track him down in the real world and (presumably) save Christmas.

Lady and the Tramp

Disney Plus

Disney has been on something of a remake kick lately, taking a lot of our favorite classic animated films and revamping them into live-action versions. The Lion King, Aladdin, Dumbo – and that’s just this year! The future streaming giant announced Lady and the Tramp would be produced exclusively for Disney Plus and released the trailer and promo images, and we obviously have to watch — just to see what it’s going to be all about.

Stargirl

Instagram / @gracevanderwaal

So, DC Universe also has an upcoming series of the same name, which is probably going to confuse some people! But Stargirl on Disney Plus is definitely geared more toward the tween YA audience. It’s a film based on a YA novel written by Jerry Spinelli that shares the same name. It stars former America’s Got Talent winner Grace Vanderwaal as a young woman who teaches a teenager named Leo the importance of being yourself. It sounds like a great lesson and one that everyone could stand to be reminded of from time to time!

Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Mad

Disney

Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made sounds like an Agatha Christie mystery for tweens. The movie is being brought to us by Tom McCarthy, who was nominated for an Oscar for directing the film Spotlight. McCarthy also won an Oscar for writing the film. Timmy Failure tells the story of a young boy who tries to uncover the truth behind the mysterious death of his class’s pet hampster. Not going to lie, this sounds like it could have been ripped right out of an Elementary Schooler’s diary!

Togo

Disney

We probably would not have predicted Willem Dafoe would be playing alongside a dog-hero in a movie that is sure to make us sob buckets of tears. Don’t get us wrong — we love him! But the roles he usually takes give us the creeps. Clearly he’s a great actor, so we’re actually pretty hopeful about Togo. The movie tells the true story of a sled dog and his owner as they race across the Alaskan wilderness on a quest to deliver medicine to a small village of people suffering from a deadly disease.

Forky Asks a Question

Disney / Pixar

We can expect to see at least two Toy Story spin-offs on the streaming network. Forky Asks a Question will feature the breakout star from Toy Story 4, Forky, as he tries to answer some pretty intense and thought-provoking questions like, “What is cheese?” What’s it about inanimate objects talking that just gets us hooked?

Lamp Life

Walt Disney Pictures

In addition to the Forky show, Disney Plus will have Lamp Life, which gives us a glimpse at what happened to Bo Peep between the second and fourth movies. Unfortunately, Bo’s time to shine will be brief — Lamp Life is only slated to be an animated short film! That said, if it’s a smash-hit, Disney Plus would *have* to give us more, right?

Monsters At Work

Disney / Pixar

This Monsters Inc. sequel will feature the original actors Billy Crystal and John Goodman, so we will obviously be watching. Monsters Inc. shocked audiences with how quickly it became beloved and even if Monsters University was kind of a flop, this sequel could restore our faith in Pixar’s monster-centric franchise.

Home Alone Reboot

Walt Disney Pictures

By now, you’ve probably heard the rumor that Disney is planning on rebooting Home Alone for a new generation. Well, turns out it wasn’t just a rumor! Disney acquired 21st Century Fox movie properties for so many of our childhood favorites, and they’re planning on some interesting family-friendly revivals for Disney Plus. No one really needs or wants another Home Alone (look what happened to Home Alone 3), but we’ll be interested to see who production execs cast!

Night At The Museum Reboot

20th Century Fox

Night At The Museum made itself a bit of a classic. There was a Jonas Brothers cameo, there was Robin Williams as Teddy Roosevelt, there was Ben Stiller. But do we really need another NATM? Probably not. Still, the reboot is coming to Disney Plus whether we like it or not. They’re hoping to bring these movies to a new generation, but we think the new generation would like the OGs just fine.

Cheaper By The Dozen Reboot

20th Century Fox

I know we were hating on Disney Plus reboots, but this one we can kind of get behind. Cheaper By The Dozen was great and had a stellar cast including Steve Martin, but it somehow isn’t the cult classic that other Hilary Duff flicks like A Cinderella Story and The Lizzie McGuire Movie are. Heck – no one even talked about Cheaper By The Dozen when Alyson Stoner was back in the press for her VMA Missy Elliot performance! So this reboot we’ll take, as long as Disney Plus promises it’ll be the classic it was meant to be!

Diary Of A Wimpy Kid Reboot

Amulet Books

Like Cheaper By The DozenDiary Of A Wimpy Kid was always pretty underrated. It was based on a popular book series by Jeff Kinney and only got one film out thirteen books? Something about that is suss to us. The children’s book was a New York Times bestseller about the trials and tribulations of being a wimpy middle schooler, and we think it’s got a lot more potential than that one wimpy movie.

One Day At Disney

disney plus one day
Walt Disney Pictures

One Day At Disney is exactly what we needed to find out what goes on behind the scenes at the studio that created some of our favorite shows and movies ever. The series will be released alongside a book of the same name and will consist of 52 short-form episodes that will delve into the profiles of some of Disney’s most important employees, from filmmakers to characters at Disney’s theme parks. A feature-length documentary will also be released on Disney Plus along with the book and episodes. See the Walt Disney company like you never have before!

Marvel’s 616

disney plus 616
Walt Disney Pictures

Marvel’s 616 is still a working title for this Disney Plus exclusive documentary series that will explore how Marvel’s legacy of stories, comics, characters, and creators interacts with the real world. Each documentary will tell a story through the eyes of various filmmakers and will delve into the cultural, historical, and societal effects that the Marvel universe has had on the world. We’re so here for all of this Marvel content.

SparkShorts

disney plus sparkshorts
Walt Disney Pictures

SparkShorts is a series of animated short films created by Pixar for its official YouTube channel, which are all created on a low budget in the short space of just six months. The first three short films in the series, Purl, Smash and Grab, and Kitbull, were released at the beginning of 2019 and now, the series has been picked up by Disney Plus to feature exclusively on the streaming service rather than YouTube. Brand new shorts in the series will be released on Disney Plus from November 12th, 2019.

Chip’n’Dale

Disney plus Chip n Dale
Walt Disney Pictures

Everyone’s favorite chipmunks Chip and Dale are returning to screens with Disney Plus in 2019. Chip ‘n’ Dale is currently in production for the streaming service and will return for 29 seven-minute-long episodes. The series will see the return of the beloved Disney characters in an old-fashioned, non-verbal style that fans of the show will remember. The series will follow the little troublemakers as they make their way through the big city and will consist of traditional and new styles of animation.

Short Circuit

Walt Disney Pictures

Similar to the SparkShorts series, Short Circuit will be an opportunity for all members of the animation team at Disney and Pixar to pitch a short idea and have it created with the assistance of the entire production team. The series has been described by Disney as an “experimental series” and will vary in terms of content and animation style. So far, 20 short films have been created which are all around two minutes in length. Each of them will appear on Disney Plus next Spring!

Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2

disney plus frozen
Walt Disney Pictures

Frozen 2 is coming to theaters soon and thanks to Disney Plus, we’re going to get to see all the work that went into creating it. Into the Unknown: Making Frozen 2 will be a documentary series that will show the hard work and imagination that went into creating the second installment in the Frozen universe. For the series, Walt Disney Studios has exclusively opened its doors in order to capture how the voice cast, directors, and team of artists came together to create Frozen 2.

Flora & Ulysses

Disney plus flora
Candlewick Press

A film based on the best-selling book Flora & Ulysses: The Illuminated Adventures by Kate DiCamillo is being made with director Lena Khan exclusively for Disney Plus. The children’s book tells the story of a 10-year-old girl named Flora, a cynical comic-book lover who rescues a squirrel from the wild and names it Ulysses. The only catch is, Ulysses has extraordinary powers and ends up wreaking havoc on Flora’s life. From the author of Because of Winn-Dixie and The Tale of Despereaux, this one’s going to be good.

Love, Simon Series

disney plus love simon
Fox

The widely-appreciated 2018 LGBTQ+ movie Love, Simon is getting its own TV series and we couldn’t be more excited. The movie followed the story of a teenager who struggles with his sexual identity while in high school. The series, which will available to watch exclusively on Disney Plus, will be set in the same universe as the film and focuses on a new student who attends Simon’s high school named Victor. The show will follow Victor through his high school experience when he reaches out to Simon because he too is struggling with his sexual orientation.

Dolphin Reef

Disney Plus dolphin
Walt Disney Pictures

Dolphin Reef is the next feature film from Disneynature which will make its debut on Disney Plus. Actress Natalie Portman has signed on to narrate the movie, which according to Deadline, will follow Echo, a young Pacific bottlenose dolphin who can’t quite decide if it’s time to grow up and take on new responsibilities. Echo is being relied on by his family and the other creatures in the coral reef to keep it healthy, but he’s tempted by the other adventures that the ocean has to offer.

Magic of the Animal Kingdom

disney plus animal kingdom
Shutterstock

One of the most-visited of the Disney theme parks is Orlando’s Animal Kingdom, so it was only time they made a movie about it. A new documentary series called Magic of the Animal Kingdom will be on Disney Plus and will take viewers behind the scenes with the animal carers, veterinarians, and biologists at Animal Kingdom and also Epcot’s SeaBase aquarium in Walt Disney World. Made in collaboration with National Geographic, the documentary will be an informative watch for viewers and will be available on the streaming service within its first year of launching.

(Re)Connect

Walt Disney Pictures

(Re)Connect is one of the most interesting additions of this list because it’s pretty out of character for Disney. The show will be a new non-fiction series that will see each episode focus on a family with relatable, modern-day issues that lots of American families face. According to the Disney Plus website, the type of issues we can expect to see on the series will be workaholic parents, overly competitive siblings, technology addiction, or a family secret. Each episode will show the families embark on a unique reconnecting journey with a family therapist.

Shop Class

Walt Disney Pictures

Another non-fiction series that will be on Disney plus is Shop Class (the title is still working, so it could change). The competition series will feature teams of creative students who compete in tasks that will see them design, build, and test new contraptions in a bid to win the title of Shop Class Champs. In each episode, the competitors will present a piece of work to a panel of judges that will judge them on engineering, design, and the final test of the build.

Ink & Paint

Walt Disney Pictures

Another series based on a book, Ink & Paint will be a documentary series that tells the stories of a number of women who made many of the Disney animated classics that we know and love possible with little or no recognition for their work. According to the Disney Plus website, the series “tells the story of animation at Disney, from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs to Coco and Moana, through the prism of an unsung workforce of trailblazing women who helped create some of the greatest animated movies of all time.”
