Who is Connie Britton? If you’ve been living under a rock for the past decade or so ”” or if you just don’t watch many network dramas ”” she’s an actress, and a fabulous one at that. Britton is currently best known for her work on the Bravo series Dirty John, but fans also love her for her roles on Nashville, American Horror Story, and Friday Night Lights. She even had a brief appearance on cult favorite cartoon Family Guy!

The more we learn about Connie ”” the more we watch her shows, listen to her interviews, and read about her activism ”” the more we love her. She’s smart, she’s savvy, and she’s got this effortless beauty we all envy. At the same time, she’s not afraid to own her own quirks and she’s brutally honest about how little she cares for traditional beauty routines. And she proves that popularity isn’t only a game for the twenty-somethings of Hollywood. Need a new role model? We’ve got you covered.

Adoption Mom

Connie has one child: Eyob, known as Yoby, a son she adopted from Ethiopia in 2011. Adopting was a decision she certainly did not make lightly, but only after facing a truth that so many career moms face: wait for the ”right” time, or go for it solo? Britton opted to go solo, and while the process took a long two years, everything about it has felt like it was meant to be. The Dirty John star openly talks about how she believes Yoby was meant to be her son, and how she loves him with every part of her.

Cover Girl

Does anyone really ever get tired of seeing Connie and that amazing hair grace the cover of our favorite magazines? Not really, especially as the interviews she gives in those magazines usually goes beyond the ”fluff” normally seen in fashion and celebrity magazines. Indeed, Britton’s lovely face has looked out at us from the cover of Health, O: The Oprah Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Redbook, and even Southwest Airline’s in-flight magazine, American Way (which apparently has always been a dream; how cool is that?).

Soccer Mom

Sure, it’s a cliche: the power mom who never misses a game. Amirite? But so many of us have been there, including Britton, who is completely unashamed of bearing the title ”soccer mom.” ”He loves it,” Connie has said, ”and I love seeing him improve.” Despite once fearing becoming that mom, Britton now owns the title proudly, doing her best to watch her son play at every opportunity. No shame, Connie! We love how strongly she supports his interests, and only wish we could find the energy to be as devoted as she is.

Single Parent By Choice

Once married ”” and now divorced ”” Britton opted to adopt her son after the death of her own parents, when she decided she didn’t want to wait and hope for the perfect partner. It was a decision she didn’t make lightly, and while she’s blessed to have the financial resources to go it solo, that doesn’t mean it’s been an easy road. Still, one of the things fans love most about Connie is the high importance she places on her relationship with her son. She has been known to risk the ire of fans by refusing photographs when she’s out with Yoby, but she makes no apologies. Surely even a celebrity struggles to balance work with parenting, but Britton makes it look effortless.

World Traveler

Ms. Britton has obviously been to Ethiopia on several occasions, as that’s where son Yoby was born. The truth, though, is that she’s been to Africa many times more than that doing her work as a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations, and she’s been to many other places all around the world and throughout the United States as well, for activism, for work, and for fun. Connie famously studied abroad in Beijing, China, a time in her life she fondly tells stories of now. And she rarely travels anywhere without her son by her side; he’s just as astute of a traveler as she is by now!

Dog Lover

Not so long ago, Connie’s dog went missing for a bit, and a series of posts on Instagram and Twitter revealed just how important Santos is to the rest of the family. And seriously, have you seen how cute this dog is? By all accounts sweet and friendly, Santos’s owner has her well-trained and has even had her implanted with a microchip. Britton was openly thankful when her fur baby was returned, and no doubt son Yoby was thrilled as well. Every home benefits from a beloved pet, and Connie and her son are so lucky to have a faithful companion in Santos.

Holistic Mama

In a society openly dedicated to quick fixes, Connie steadfastly believes in maintaining health in a well-rounded, holistic way, and she manages to pull it off without acquiring any weird labels or any sort of bizarre reputation. In a number of interviews, she openly discusses her love of yoga and meditation, her well-rounded diet (which, of course, includes the occasional cookie!), and her simple skin and hair care routines. What a wonderful example she is setting for her family by approaching her health in this manner! We can only hope she’ll continue talking more about her stress reduction techniques and the kinds of foods she serves at her dinner table; by the way she’s always glowing, it’s clearly working well for her.

Full-Time Parent

Britton works hard in her career as an actress; there’s no doubt about that. But when she’s off the set and with her son, she does everything in her power to make him her focus. Whether that means being there for soccer games, dodging eager fans out in public, or even entertaining the thought of letting her son learn to play a noisy instrument like the trumpet, Connie puts her son first. Parenting is a ton of work, but our leading lady loves every second of it, no matter how much it exhausts her!

Positive Role Model

Image: Instagram / @conniebritton

One of the things fans love most about Britton is just how down-to-earth and real she is. She freely owns the fact that she’s not fresh in the bloom of youth, and seems uninterested in the routes other actresses (and actors!) might take to preserve their youth. She’s got a good education (although she didn’t major in the arts in any way). She’s a goodwill ambassador to the United Nations. She’s a feminist and an activist who stands up for what she believes in. She meditates. She exercises and would love to find time to take more hot baths. Seriously, Connie is the friend so many of us wish we had in real life. Or maybe the cool neighbor we secretly wish we could be, even if just for a day.

Feminist

If you haven’t figured out by now that Connie Britton is a feminist, you haven’t been following her social media feeds or reading/watching her interviews! Yes, our leading lady believes strongly in the power of women. She marches in the Women’s March every year. She reads and promotes books by strong women. She votes, for goodness’ sake. And she shares many of these ideas and adventures on her social media pages, which allows her fans to engage with her. ”How we treat each other, support each other, respect each other, and fight for each other means everything.” True words, Connie!

Activist

Image: Instagram / @conniebritton

While Connie’s feminist views are pretty well-known to any who read her interviews or follow her online, the plight and power of women is not the only topic she is passionate about. For World Environment Day in 2018, as an example, Ms. Britton encouraged all of her fans to take a pledge to avoid throwaway bottles, coffee cups, and even single-use plastic straws for a whole month. She’s also been very vocal about other important issues, such as immigration issues and the problems that those seeking the enter the United States face. We love how passionate Connie is about these important issues!

Well-Connected

Image: Instagram / @conniebritton

Surely, we all know by know that Connie was college roommates with United States Senator (and Democratic presidential candidate) Kirsten Gillibrand. There’s something so exciting about seeing how Connie lets this personal connection fire her up, both as a parent and as an activist. But what’s perhaps even cooler is that Britton has never over-done it here, and she certainly doesn’t make a habit of asking her high-ranking friend to pull strings for her. In fact, she’s notably only done so once, when her oversees adoption of son Yoby was being held up by bureaucratic red tape. While Connie does mention the friendship with some frequency over social media, it’s refreshing to know that mentions and occasional hang outs are as far as it goes.

Book Lover

Image: Instagram / @conniebritton

It may not be an activity she often has time to do, but when she can, Connie loves to read. In her Instagram feed, Britton promotes books by those she admires and is close to, and it’s admittedly quite fun to get a glimpse of what’s on her bedside reading table. But as a parent, Connie reads to her son Yoby regularly, too, both at home and at school functions. Now if only we could get a list of the books currently on her mother-son reading list; we’d love to see what fantastic tales they’re enjoying together!

A Personal Connection To Cancer

Image: Instagram / @conniebritton

Not long before adopting her son, Connie lost both parents: her mom died from breast cancer in 2005, and then she lost her father as well just three years later to a bone marrow disorder. Those loses are what famously drove her to adopt her son, and it’s a cause she continues to passionately invest her time and money in. Connie has publicly supported numerous breast cancer charities, and that personal history is also a driving force behind her interest in a healthy lifestyle, including the way she eats and her attempts to live as clean (and chemical-free) of a life as possible.

Not Afraid To Be Herself

Image: Instagram / @conniebritton

If there’s one thing we all love, it’s a famous person who seems down-to-earth and normal, and that’s exactly what we get with Ms. Connie. If you need proof, look no further than her Instagram feed, which is full of Connie being, well, Connie. Sure, there are the magazine covers, the pictures from talk shows and awards shows. But there are also the refreshing pictures of a normal mom being silly and weird, the kinds of pictures we all have on our phones but might be too self-conscious to show to any but our friends. Surrounded by birthday flowers? Visiting Disney? Blurry pictures, bad lighting, no makeup”¦ you got it. Proof that Connie is just like the rest of us!

Exhausted Just Like Us

Image: Instagram / @conniebritton

Most busy parents, whether single or not, find themselves spending the last few hours of the evening dreaming of getting their kids in bed, so that they might catch an episode or two of whatever show they’re currently obsessed with on Netflix. Not Connie. In a recent interview on Refinery29, Britton freely admits that she’s not too much of a television watcher herself. Nope, when she’s not busy working or spending time with her son, Ms. Britton prefers to hit the hay and catch up on her own sleep. But with the schedule she must run, can anyone really blame her?
