Boy Hires Online Hooker Who Pepper Sprays Him And Steals His Piggy Bank

shutterstock_132108950__1367672253_142.196.167.223A fourteen-year-old boy from Illinois got the biggest let down of his young life when he hired a prostitute online this week only to be pepper-sprayed and robbed. I just can’t even think about this without breaking out in hives. I am not prepared to parent a teenager.

The boy invited the Dareka R. Brooks, 22, into his home, where she instructed him to remove his pants. As the kid waited on the edge of the bed, she allegedly sprayed him with pepper spray and stole his iPad and his piggy bank. ABC News reports:

After the alleged robbery, the teen called police.  Cops ”pinged” the iPad after Brooks turned it on, allowing them to track her to a motel in Elks Grove Village about 10 miles from the boy’s home, Bolger said.

Brooks was charged with armed robbery and ordered held on $10,000 bond on Thursday.

I’m going to digress a little by saying that I can’t believe thieves aren’t aware that there are tracking devices on iPads. That always blows my mind. It doesn’t blow my mind as much as the fact that the kid actually called the police and admitted he was trying to hire a prostitute. I would expect someone in his position to make up some crazy story about a masked man with a ceramic pig fetish. Kids just don’t have any imaginations anymore.

I can’t help joking a little because the fact that he got his piggy bank stolen is ridiculous – but this boy is really lucky. He invited a complete stranger into his house and could have been seriously harmed. How in the heck do we protect our children from the Internet? How do we teach them to have more sense than this kid and can we ever be fully sure that they won’t act on some ridiculous impulse like this?

I’m beginning to think I was born in the wrong decade. Damn you, Internet, for making parenting so terrifying.
