Former President Barack Obama Tells David Letterman That Fox News Viewers Are ‘Living on a Different Planet’

David Letterman returned to television on Friday, with a 6-part series on Netflix. My Next Guest Needs No Introduction with David Letterman opened big, with former President Barack Obama in the guest chair. It wasn’t the first time President Obama and David Letterman have gotten together to talk shop. But the new show format had a much more casual feel to it all. And of course, President of Our Hearts is no longer a public figure, so he can be a bit more … candid. The conversation obviously veered into politics, where Obama made a comment about Fox News viewers that, naturally, pissed off Fox News viewers.

Barack Obama was the first guest on Letterman’s new show, and honestly, it was perfection. It’s been so long since we’ve heard an eloquent, brilliant man talk about current events. Such a breath of fresh air!

Obama seemed very relaxed, and talked about Michelle, his daughters, and of course, politics. As a former President of the United States, he knows a bit about what’s going on. But when Letterman asked Obama what he felt was a bigger threat to democracy, the president attacking the press or foreign agents interfering with elections, Obama couldn’t resist a jab at Trump and Fox News. Sometimes we don’t want to go high, you know?

“One of the biggest challenges we have to our democracy is the degree to which we don’t share a common baseline of facts,” Obama said. “If you watch Fox News, you are living on a different planet than you are if you are listening to NPR.” People were maaaaaaaaad.

Lol, self-owned is the best owned.

I mean, he’s not wrong? If you watch Fox News for even 10 minutes, it’s pretty clear that they operate on a significant bias. It’s not just reporting facts with a conservative spin; Fox News doesn’t really deal in facts. While the entire world raged about Trump’s comments about “shithole” countries, Fox ran stories on Hillary Clinton’s emails and how Trump wasn’t a racist and wants to give you some money.

I, for one, was happy to see Obama again (even though it made me miss him and just intelligence in general). And I’m glad he said what he said. At this point, it seems like Fox News viewers are in a completely different universe.
