Christian Group Bullies Schools To Not Participate in Anti-Bullying Day
Parents, we are asked to keep our kids at home on October 30 by the American Family Association because some schools are participating in an anti-bullying program, which encourages kids to make friends beyond their usual cliques. Why is the American Family Bigot Group Association so concerned about Mix It Up At Lunch, which encourages kids to eat with kids they don’t normally share juice boxes next to in the school cafeteria? Because your kid may sit next to a gay kid! Oh the horrors!

“Mix It Up” day is an entry-level “diversity” program designed specifically by SPCL to establish the acceptance of homosexuality into public schools, including elementary and junior high schools.
And from the Southern Poverty Law Center, which sponsors Mix It Up Day:
In our surveys, students have identified the cafeteria as the place where divisions are most clearly drawn. So on one day October 30 this school year we ask students to move out of their comfort zones and connect with someone new over lunch. It’s a simple act with profound implications. Studies have shown that interactions across group lines can help reduce prejudice. When students interact with those who are different from them, biases and misperceptions can fall away.
I’m kinda worried about our friends at the American Family Association. They are concerned that on October 30 our children may sit next to a kid at lunch who may or may not be gay and possibly bond over the fact that school lunches are pretty disgusting. Our kids may trade snacks with these children. I wish I could sit down with the AFA and gently explain to them that sharing chicken nuggets next to a gay child does not cause homosexuality, but I’m not sure they would listen. We may also not want to clue them in on the fact that gay people are their kid’s relatives, teachers, coaches, priests, doctors and neighbors. Pretty soon they will have to build gigantic anti-gay domes for them and their precious offspring to live in. I think any organization who works to discourage bullying in schools is doing a great thing. From what I can tell from the website, the Southern Poverty Law Center is working on issues other than having kids from different social circles eat lunch together, they are also :
known for investigating and exposing hate group activities throughout the world. They focus on widespread issues of social injustice including children at risk, hate and extremism, immigrant justice, and LGBT rights. But they go a step beyond fighting hate and seeking justice for the vulnerable. The SPLC conducts one of the nation’s leading programs for teaching tolerance.
I think as parents we are all concerned with bullying. Every day I tell my own kids to include kids they don’t normally play with during their recess games. I remind my kids that it’s not nice to tease or pick on other students. If my kids feel they are being bullied I address the issue right away. I encourage them to make friends with all types of kids. The thought of being worried my kid may sit next to a gay kid at lunch and gasp, become friends with them doesn’t concern or upset me in the least. And if the AFA thinks I’m going to keep my kid out of school on October 30 and deal with their pre-Halloween excitement which includes keeping them away from the fun-size candy bars I’ll be handing out the night after, they are crazy.
