Taking a family vacation doesn’t have to end in classic Griswold fashion. With the right amount of planning, you can have the vacation of your dreams, even with kids in tow! One of the best ways to take the hassle and stress out of planning your trip is to go all-inclusive with your accommodations. Instead of paying separately for your rooms, food, and activities (which can add up REALLY fast), plan your stay at a resort that rolls it all into one rate. I shared some of the best all-inclusive Caribbean resorts for families before, which I’m still daydreaming about. But, a Caribbean vacation isn’t in every family’s budget! The good news is, you don’t have to go far to find amazing resorts. These all-inclusive family resorts are right here in the US.
1. First up in the best all-inclusive family resorts in the US: a little luxury dude ranchin’ at Vista Verde in Steamboat Springs, CO.
A luxury dude ranch, you say? Sign me up! Vista Verde is a stunning property located in the Rocky Mountains. Because of the location, it can feel like a completely different vacation depending on the time of year you visit! During warmer months, kids can enjoy a plethora of ranch-themed activities, like fishing, horseback riding, and barn dances (YES, BARN DANCES). In the winter, Vista Verde transforms into a magical winter wonderland, with piles of gorgeous snow, tubing, sledding, sleigh rides, and of course, hot chocolate.
If I wasn’t already sold on this place, this line from the website did me in: “Single parents find a chance to take a deep breath and recharge while their kids are off wearing themselves out in the fresh mountain air”. Yes, please and thank you. Best part? It’s all-inclusive, so the only thing you have to worry about during your stay is which outdoor adventure you’re going on next.
2. Club Med Sandpiper Bay on Florida’s Treasure Coast
Club Med is considered the pinnacle of all-inclusive resorts, and for good reason. A stay at any Club Med resort is basically a short trip to heaven. Club Med Sandpiper Bay definitely lives up to that reputation. Located on Florida’s Treasure Coast, the resort is a stunning property with gorgeous accommodations and beaches you’ll never want to leave. But what sets Sandpiper Bay apart from other Club Med properties is its amenities. This is THE resort for active, outdoor sports-loving families. Some of the activities include golf, tennis, sailing, kayaking, yoga, and so much more. Their state-of-the-art on-site sports facilities are some of the best in the world. Your kiddos can run themselves ragged doing the sports. And you can sip a margarita under a shady palm on the beach. Everybody wins!
3. Some all-inclusive family resorts are as much fun as a trip to an amusement park. Take Woodloch Resort in the Poconos, for example.
Are you looking for all the amenities of a cruise, without having to actually go on a boat? Then Woodloch Resort is right is right up your alley. This all-inclusive family resort located in the Poconos, PA takes family-friendly to a whole new level. Owned and operated by the Kiesendahl family since 1958, Woodloch is all about making sure every member of your family has the time of their life. Kids can enjoy more activities than they’ll have time to do, and the resort makes it easy with their daily activity schedule handed out every morning at breakfast. Parents can join in the fun too, or take a spa day at their sister property, The Lodge at Woodloch.
4. Looking for an all-inclusive family resort set in a Victorian castle? Mohonk Mountain House in New York is your spot.
Can you even stand the gorgeousness?! Mohonk Mountain House was founded by the Smiley Family in 1869, and is actually registered as a National Historical Monument! But don’t let that fancy title fool you: there is fun to be had at this stunning resort. The world-class dining and amazing spa will appeal to parents. But kids will want to spend their days on the lake kayaking or fly-fishing, I’m sure. They even have an amazing drop-off kids program where kids can learn, play, and explore. Most of the daily activities are included in your stay, but some are available for an additional cost.
5. Migis Lodge in South Casco, Maine
When a resort offers something called “The Full American Plan”, you know you’ve come to the right place. Migis Lodge in Maine has got you covered when it comes to meals, activities, and breathtaking lodgings. Located on Sebago Lake, they’ve left no stone unturned when it comes to the perfect rustic-meets-luxury family vacation. All meals, amenities, and many activities are included in their daily rate, so all you have to do is show up and have a great time. They have relaxing wellness activities for parents, plus two different clubs for kiddos: The Kids Club for ages 4-6, and the Adventure Club for kids 7 and older.
6. “America’s Summer Place”: The Grand Hotel on Mackinac Island in Michigan.
You guys, get this: motorized vehicles are still prohibited on the island, so families arrive to the island by boat and are taken to the resort BY HORSE-DRAWN CARRIAGE. That is reason enough to book a family vacation at The Grand Hotel. It feels like a different world and time, where everything moves at the pace of carriages and bicycles. They offer a wide array of flexible package options, and most include at least two meals a day plus lots of family-themed activities. Plus, kids under 17 stay for free in the same room with their parents.
7. Another of the all-inclusive family resorts for the family looking to do a little dude ranchin’: Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork, MT.
Looking for a little mountain fun with a side of water sports? Then look no further than Flathead Lake Lodge in Bigfork, Montana. Located just minutes from Glacier National Park, this resort combines all the rustic fun of a dude ranch with refreshing lake living. It’s got a family summer camp vibe, and that’s what makes it magical. Everything is included in your stay, right down to the snacks your kids will need to keep them fueled for horseback riding, dock-jumping, and exploring.
8. Luxury in the desert: Arizona Biltmore.
Listen, there’s a time and a place for mountain living and dude ranching. And then, there’s the time and place for lounging by the pool while your kids swim themselves sleepy and the nicest staff you’ve ever encountered keeps your cocktail full. Arizona Biltmore is a Waldorf Astoria property, so this is luxury at its finest. Their all-inclusive package has you covered for meals, drinks, activities, and even discounts on spa services. There are EIGHT different pools, a 92-foot water slide, and even “dive-in” movies at the Paradise Pool. Arizona can be brutal in the summer, but you won’t be feeling the heat at this stunning resort.
9. No list of all-inclusive family resorts in the US would be complete without a Hawaiian addition! Travaasa Maui is your one-stop island destination.
Um, worth it for that pool alone, right? It’s hard to find a true all-inclusive resort in Hawaii, but Travaasa Maui is as close as it can get. You can customize your stay from a huge list of activities and amenities, or you can go with their Total Travaasa package. This includes unlimited access to their schedule of programs and activities (organized in pillars like Adventure or Wellness), all gratuities, beautiful accommodations, chef-prepared meals three times a day, and $175 resort credit per person, per night to use toward spa treatments and private classes! Hawaii is paradise, and you can experience it all at Travaasa.
10. Fair Hills Resort on Minnesota’s Pelican Lake is like the all-inclusive family resorts from your childhood (i.e., sleep-away camp).
Have you ever wanted to revisit the summers spent at sleep-away camps when you were a kid? Fair Hills Resort is the perfect place to recapture a little part of your childhood. This rustic lakeside resort is perfect for families who don’t want or need lots of frills, but want to create memories to last a lifetime. They offer a few different packages at varying rates, but you can’t beat the value of their all-inclusive American Meal Plan package. Plus, all the activities are FREE for the entire family! So that means you can spend your days doing water sports, treasure hunts, and biking, while your kids make slime and spend some time at the carnival. Summer camp has never looked so good.
You don’t have to travel far to find amazing all-inclusive family resorts for your next vacation. These resorts will have you covered from the moment you arrive until someone has to drag you kicking and screaming from your room at the end of your stay.
