A Groom With Initiative: Prince William Tore Up Original Royal Wedding Guest List
Stereotypes may persist of grooms not giving a finger sandwich about wedding planning, but clearly an era of actively co-parenting fathers and involved grooms is upon us. Along with the royal family looking to do away with 300 years of sex discrimination, from the Queen herself all the way to Kate Middleton, Prince William reportedly put his foot down on some royal wedding nonsense.
When the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince William were planning their big affair in 2011, Kate’s now-husband did what many soon-to-be-weds would like to do with an unruly guest list — he trashed it! Daily Mail reports:
‘There was very much a subdued moment when I was handed a list with 777 names on — not one person I knew or Catherine knew. I went to her and said, ‘Listen, I’ve got this list, not one person I know — what do I do?’ and [the Queen] went, ‘Get rid of it. Start from your friends and then we’ll add those we need in due course. It’s your day.'”
Sound advice from the grandmother there despite that the family was literally planning the wedding of the decade.
