Cissy Houston Exploits Daughter Whitney Houston With New Memoir

whitney houston deadCan Whitney Houston‘s family please just let her rest in peace? Apparently not. Last month we learned that Whitney’s mom, Cissy Houston, daughter Bobbi Kristina, and bro and sis-in-law Gary and Pat would be starring in a new reality TV show called The Houston Family Chronicles (because, you know, it’s really necessary to share your mourning process with the world).

Now Cissy is taking the exploitation one step further with a memoir on her famous daughter that promises to tell the “unabridged and unbelievable story” of Whitney’s career. Argh! Really, I tried not to be so cynical a mother has a right to remember her daughter however she sees fit but c’mon, this is a pretty cheesy move. You have to ask yourself what exactly Cissy is hoping to achieve by writing a tell-all of her daughter’s life?  (For some strange reason, dollar signs keep flashing before my very eyes.)

As we all know by now, Whitney died in a Beverly Hills hotel bathtub in February at the young age of 48. So it’s been less than four months since that tragic day, and Cissy has already inked what I imagine is a pretty sweet deal with HarperCollins. (The publisher announced yesterday that the currently untitled book is slated to launch next February presumably, and predictably, on the one-year anniversary of her death.)

As Cissy said in a statement released by HarperCollins:

“When I lost my daughter Nippy [Whitney Houston’s nickname], the world lost one of the most beautiful voices and an extraordinarily beautiful and charitable woman. In sharing our story in this book, I hope to give her fans something to treasure, the way we all treasured Whitney. We are still receiving thousands of letters each day from her fans, and I hope reading this book will provide a deeper understanding into my daughter’s true story.”

Apparently Cissy will also write about Whitney’s drug problems and her tumultuous marriage to Bobby Brown. Okay, really, is nothing sacred? Let the poor woman rest.
