Steve Jobs’ Family Mourns The Loss Of A Husband And Father

Apple co-founder Steve Jobs has died at age 56 after a battle with a rare form of pancreatic cancer and the world is mourning the loss of a brilliant visionary. Mere minutes after news broke of Jobs’ untimely death, countless tributes and timelines infiltrated the web and they’ll no doubt continue to do so for days and weeks, certainly, but even for decades to come. This man was a genius, after all, and he transformed not only the way we use technology but how we embrace it, too.

The first thing I thought, however, when I heard the news, was of Jobs’ family. Here’s this major public figure who inspired millions, maybe billions, of people but, at the end of the day, it’s his wife Laurene Powell Jobs and his four children Lisa, Reed, Erin and Eve who knew him best, and who are no doubt suffering the most. They’re mourning the loss not of an “innovator” but of a husband and father, plain and simple.

Steve Jobs’ family said in a statement to the press that he died “peacefully surrounded by his family,” and that “in his public life, Steve was known as a visionary; in his private life, he cherished his family.” Our hearts go out to them. Jobs may have a larger-than-life reputation but for at least five close family members, I can only imagine it’s the simple things they’ll miss the most.
