Bobbi Kristina Brown, Whitney Houston‘s daughter, has had the misfortune of not only losing her mother but now having to shoulder the colossal glare of the press. Aside from being rushed to the hospital twice the weekend Whitney passed away, the media has also been scrutinizing the talent of Bobbi Kristina wondering if she could possibly replace her diva mother. And now Oprah Winfrey has snagged an interview with the now 19-year-old that will air on March 11th, exactly a month to the day of Whitney Houston’s death. The interview will also reportedly include Whitney’s brother Gary and her sister-in-law and manager, Patricia Houston.
Whitney’s manager present at an intimate interview with Bobbi Kristina? Fancy that.
The move by Oprah and the OWN network proves once again that the PR machine never stops churning, even when a daughter loses a mother. Every loss and misfortune it seems can always be parlayed into ratings and opportunities with the right people involved. The young woman tragically lost her mother less than a month ago, and the interview has already been shot, edited, and slated for an airing date all for your viewing pleasure. It truly is a testament to our times.
It’s easy to assume that this type of interview might be much too soon for the teenager who, according to press headlines, hasn’t been coping with her mother’s death all that well. Speculation of substance abuse and other erratic behavior continue to hit the interwebs, and this could of course be an opportunity for Bobbi Kristina to clear her own name should the allegations be false. Hypothetically, she could also be using the space to be proactive about her mother’s legacy as Us Magazine reports that the one-hour special will allow Bobbi Kristina to “[share] personal memories of her mom and how she would like the iconic superstar to be remembered.”
Perhaps, but Whitney’s only daughter, brother, and sister-in-law surely don’t need Oprah’s stage to remember Whitney Houston how they want to as a family.
