Katy Perry Doesn’t Want Her Divorce To Disappoint Her Parents

There’s no use pretending otherwise. I secretly love Katy Perry. She’s my guilty pleasure. Yes, most of her songs are horrible, but some are unbelievably catchy. (The ones I belt out in the shower.) And I think she is adorable. And yes, her body. Fantastic. And while I had always found Russell Brand to be both unfunny and annoying, his Get Him To The Greek turned me into a fan. Actually, he was pretty good in that Forgetting Sarah Marshall flick, too.

Sure, they’re both clearly your typical celebrities, meaning they likely have some sort of narcissistic personality disorder or other serious problem. But I really hoped they would have a long, happy and healthy marriage. When the news came out on Friday that Brand had filed for divorce, everyone made fun of it, pointing out how expected the news was. But gullible me felt really sad about it. It’s never nice to see a marriage fail. [tagbox tag=”divorce”]

The pair had only been married a year and had no children. But TMZ reports that the duo did have at least one parenting issue on their road to divorce:

We’re told … Katy and Russell knew the relationship was on the rocks a couple of months ago — but didn’t want to give up on the marriage without making a concerted effort to work things out.

But the effort fell flat … with both sides feeling “it just wasn’t there.”

Since Katy’s parents are evangelical Christians, we’re told she didn’t want to be the one to “officially” end the marriage by filing the docs … since she was raised to believe divorce is wrong.

Who knows if this gossip is true but that does have to be one of the most difficult parts of divorce — disappointing one’s parents. My family has almost no divorce and when my cousin recently left his wife, his parents were mortified. They still love him, of course, but they could not be more disappointed in his behavior.

Maybe no one really aspires to have Russell Brand for a son-in-law. But it’s still sad to see the marriage end.
