Jay-Z has written a new track, called “Glory” and featuring B.I.C. (Blue Ivy Carter), about his newborn daughter with Beyonce. And, I must admit, it’s pretty awesome. I kind of wanted to hate it because to like it is so cliche. But one listen and I was hooked.
The lyrics are pretty telling though, like any form of art, they may not be literal. For example, Jay-Z, talks about a “tragic” miscarriage, though we’re not sure if he’s referring to Beyonce having suffered from one prior to conceiving Blue or if this is something that happened in a previous relationship or to someone else altogether. No matter. The overall sentiment is pure joy and disbelief.
Check out the lyrics and see for yourself:
The most amazing feeling I feel
Words can’t describe what I’m feeling for real
Baby I paint the sky blue
My greatest creation was youFalse alarms and false starts
All made better by the sound of your heart
All the pain of the last time
I pray so hard it was the last time
Your mamma said that you danced for her
Did you wiggle your hands for her?Everything that I pray for
God’s gift I wish I would have prayed more
God makes no mistakes
I’ve made a few
Rough sledding here and there
But I made it throughI wreak havoc on the world
Get ready for part two
A younger, smarter, faster me
Saw a pinch of hove
A whole glass of BThe most amazing feeling I feel
Words can’t describe what I’m feeling for real
Baby I paint the sky blue
My greatest creation was youYour grandpop died of nigga failure
Then he died of liver failure
Deep down he was a good man
God damn I can’t deliver failureBad ass lil’ hove
Two years old shopping on Savile Row
Wicked ass little B
Hard not to spoil you rotten lookin’ like little me
The most beautifulest thing in this world
Is daddy’s little girlYou don’t yet know what swag is
But you was made in Paris
And mamma woke up the next day and shot her album package
Last time the miscarriage was so tragic
We was afraid you’d disappear
But nah baby you magicSo there you have it shit happens
Just make sure the plane you on is bigger than your carry on baggage
Everybody go through stuff
Life is a gift love open it upYou’re a child of destiny
You’re the child of my destiny
You’re my child with the child from Destiny’s Child
That’s a hell of a recipeThe most amazing feeling I feel
Words can’t describe what I’m feeling for real
Baby I paint the sky blue
My greatest creation was you
There’s no denying the sense of wonderment here, which is probably why I love this song so much. Oh, it also features a sample of Jay-Z’s baby Blue crying at the end – which my or may not have made me cry, too.

It’s a shame that he kept other people from seeing their critically ill babies. Doesn’t happen when other famous people give birth, but he and Beyonce had to make sure that security denied parents a chance to see their own children in NICU. Well, who cares, they’re not HIS kids, right? What rotten monsters he’s going to raise, if he is such a bad father he can’t understand how important it is that people get to see their children in NICU. Disgusting.
