Guess Which ‘Hunger Games’ Characters Are Influencing The Next Generation’s Baby Names?

hunger gamesWe all know that pop culture has a huge influence on our choices when we’re naming our little ones. “Bella” became the name du jour shortly after the Twilight series hit the height of its popularity. “Harry” became one of the most popular boy names in Britain after J.K. Rowling‘s books inspired a generation of fans. Now, it’s The Hunger Games’ turn to name a decade’s worth of adorable youngsters. So which character names are capturing parents’ hearts?

According to Nameberry, there are a couple of District names that will be influencing parents this year. However, it isn’t the popular love triangle that parents are gravitating to. Sorry Katniss, Peeta and Gale.

The names that we might see embroidered on blankets and backpacks most are two smaller characters, Rue and Cato.

For those who have read the books, it might not be too surprising that “Rue” is getting some love. The heartbreaking and kind character becomes something of a martyr in the series and inspires the main character in a serious and significant way. The name is simple and sweet, which honestly fits the character that plenty of readers were drawn to.

Cato, on the other hand, might be a bit of a shocker. After all, he wasn’t the most likable of the candidates, to put it mildly.

Which Hunger Games names do you see popping up in maternity wards in the near future? Is anyone suddenly taken with the name Effie, because I have to admit that it makes me smile.

No matter what you use for inspiration, choosing a baby name can be difficult and stressful. So I guess it’s only fair that I end the story by saying that I truly hope that luck is ever in your favor.
