I was at a talk recently with Peggy Orenstein, noted authority on girls issues, when she mentioned that all the Disney princesses, when pictured together, don’t acknowledge one another — they’re always looking away from one another or directly at the camera. The reason for this, Orenstein explains, is that Roy Disney, senior executive and nephew to Walt Disney, was against the mass marketing of the Disney princesses outside of their respective stories. Because Disney still wanted to capitalize on the marketing of the princess, Roy consented as long as the ladies are not aware of one another.
Now I dare you to find a single picture in which this isn’t true.

What’s unsettling about them not acknowledging each other? They can never unite. They can never come together to bitch about common problems. They will all suffer alone, never to know what good it can do to complain about how pinch-y their shoes are or decide to stop dieting. Since they’re all kept in their little separate biomes they can’t form a princess union or invent feminism. I bet that sounds like a joke, but I mean it.

Who cares? Seriously Mommyish, we know you hate the Disney princesses (or anything pink that is marketed towards girls) but this kind of nit picking is just annoying.
Disney Princess don’t look at each other because they exist in separate stories as was said. No conspiracy theory going on here.
One of the dumbest new “fun facts” I’ve heard recently. Our children don’t have social problems because the Disney princess don’t look at each other in photos. Trust me, parents are doing just fine screwing up their children all by themselves. I’m sure I am.
Am I missing something, do they need to look at each other? Please explain to me why this is a problem. And if anyone can, please explain why we are blaming Disney for girl issues. Last I could tell we have issues 1.Due to biology(we are very competitive) and 2.Mothers perpetuate stereotypes by consistently judging and labeling other women.

Thats DUMB. Put a group of girls together and tell them you’re about to snap a picture. Most will be looking at the camera. One will have her eyes closed. One will be holding her drink up in the air. One will be looking at a guy off frame. And one will be looking at the OTHER camera.
I hate it when people make up dumb stuff to try to justify -isms.
Exactly Stacy, why would they look at each other? They are not in the same movies so why would they make them interact when creating a pose for all the princesses?
And not just princesses! There’s a major acknowledgement problem among all Disney characters! (http://www.google.com/search?q=disney+characters&oe=utf-8&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a&um=1&ie=UTF-8&tbm=isch&source=og&sa=N&hl=en&tab=wi&biw=1920&bih=1016)
The exception seems to be Winnie the Pooh, which isn’t surprising. It’s definitely the most endearing, in terms of friendship between the characters. Although I’m still mad at them all for letting Owl take Piglet’s home. http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://cdn1.kevinmd.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/pooh-friends-l-784147.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.kevinmd.com/blog/2008/11/using-disney-characters-to-sell.html&usg=__xf0nNciTBsBN0K8aMx_AOyUVBdw=&h=321&w=480&sz=37&hl=en&start=49&sig2=rUxwjMBTolMNsKDBkhNRfQ&zoom=1&tbnid=ahLe6oqLX_5gjM:&tbnh=159&tbnw=198&ei=9g3QTdyIOcjagQezsIS4DA&prev=/search%3Fq%3Ddisney%2Bcharacters%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26sa%3DN%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26biw%3D1286%26bih%3D499%26tbm%3Disch0%2C1299&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=985&vpy=139&dur=6104&hovh=183&hovw=275&tx=202&ty=79&page=4&ndsp=11&ved=1t:429,r:10,s:49&biw=1286&bih=499
