Alicia Silverstone Defends Her Mama Bird Technique As A Renowned ‘Weaning Process’
When asked by an audience member if pre-chewing your baby’s food,or premastication, kept with Cher’s air-head persona, the actress responded:
“People have been feeding their kids that way for thousands for years. It’s a weaning process. Honestly, when I posted the video I was not thinking, so maybe I was like Cher! I think it’s adorable and it makes me laugh every time he does it….He attacks my mouth and I think it’s adorable. He also knows how to use his hands and he also eats regular food so when babies are weaning, he still breastfeeds. Some people think that’s disgusting too which is insane.”
And the actress isn’t really pulling that one out of her baby’s bottom. The Christian Science Monitor reports that the technique is “fairly common” in other parts of the world, although some doctors disagree over the hygienic risks.
Using and/or researching a thousand-year weaning process couldn’t be farther from the character of Cher anyway. Although a blind reappropriation of said tactic while skimming through some parenting magazines probably would.
