Courtney Stodden Won’t Have That Tan For Long, California Bans Tanning Beds For Minors

Those of you who were horrified by Courtney Stodden‘s recent bikini romp with husband Doug Hutchison will be pleased to learn that she may not be able to keep that tan after all. The 17 year old may have gone under the knife to achieve that look but she won’t be able to visit the tanning beds after January 1st. California just became the first state to ban kids under 18 from tanning salons.

At present, kids under 14 cannot use tanning beds which is probably why the mommies on Toddlers & Tiara‘s send their little ones to be spray tanned. The new law is suspected to hurt tanning salon profits in the state as AP reports that between 5 and 10% of Indoor Tanning Salon association members are underage.

To give you an idea of just how popular tanning beds are in Southern California, the bill’s author, state Sen. Ted Lieu told AP that there are more tanning salons in Los Angeles County than Starbucks coffee shops or McDonald’s fast food restaurants. Interestingly, girls from higher incomes are more likely to develop melanoma says Lieu in a study he cites from the Stanford Cancer Institute.

Looks like all these California teens will soon have to schedule their spray tans along side six-year-old Eden Wood.
